Placed on a 50-acre parcel into the side of Montage Mountain in Moosic, Lackawanna County Stadium has been home to a AAA International League Baseball team since it opened in1989. The stadium was built to mirror Veterans Stadium, the previous home of the Philadelphia Phillies, to give AAA players a taste of what they’ll see in the big leagues. Instead of a looming outfield grandstand however, LCS boasts a scenic backdrop of a tree-covered hillside and rock outcroppings. Fans can watch the game from bright orange upper deck seating, lower-level, fold-down seating or metal bleachers down each foul line. There are 19 private luxury boxes, and 2 rentable party boxes that each feature views of the game from air-conditioned comfort inside or on a connected outdoor balcony. A picnic deck holds 50-150 people above the visitor’s bullpen down the right field line, while a newly opened Coors Light Pavilion over the home team bullpen offers spacious views from the left field corner. The Pavilion is open to both general admission ticket-holders and private parties and boasts its own specialty concession stand and umbrella tables. In 2005, the Banko Party Patio was opened near the main gates with live entertainment and a bar before each game. A new clubhouse project was also completed this year, featuring a spacious main locker room and an in-house batting tunnel allowing fans to watch batting practice through windows that look out near the box office.  LCS even features The Stadium Club, its own dine-in restaurant above the right field concourse that is open independently of the game schedule. Stadium details that visitors should look for include “baseball” lampposts illuminating the entryway, a scenic sidewalk path to the main gates and a souvenir shop inside. The stadium has a more “Major League” feel to it than other minor league ballparks, but the small town atmosphere still shines through.
